Dehne Lima Film announces that it has optioned the screenplay “Adventures in the 419” by Cheryl Dunye and Sarah Schulman. The screenplay was originally developed at the Binger Filmlab and later developed at the Tribeca Film Lab.
4 People. 1 Scam. 9 Days. “419” is a comedy crime caper about one 419 Nigerian Bank Scam that involves Dutch, Nigerians, Germans and Americans, living between Amsterdam and Munich.
Cheryl Dunye is a Los Angeles based writer and director who has received numerous national and international honors for her work in the media arts. Dunye’s debut film THE WATERMELON WOMAN was awarded the Teddy Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and best feature in L.A.’s OutFest, Italy’s Torino, and France’s Creteil Film Festivals. Dunye’s second feature, the acclaimed HBO Films, STRANGER INSIDE, garnered Dunye an Independent Spirit award nomination for best director in 2002. Her third feature film, Miramax’s, MY BABY’S DADDY, was a box office success and played at theaters nation wide.
Sarah Schulman is a New York City based writer with 15 published novels, non-fiction books and plays. She attended the Sundance Theater Lab, is a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient and had numerous plays produced at NYC landmarks such as the Playwrights Horizon, PS 122, La Mama Theater, among others. Schulman’s screenplay credits include THE OWLS, premiered at Berlin International Film Festival Panorama in 2010, MOMMY IS COMING and LONELY HUNTER.
